Neuroimaging research in obsessive-compulsive disorder and related disorders

The Psychiatric NeuroCognition Laboratory (PNClab) studies brain functioning in people with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and related disorders including major depression and Tourette’s disorder. Our work uses a multi-method approach to investigating heterogeneity in OCD and transdiagnostic features shared with other disorders. This work seeks to understand the fundamental problem of variability of treatment efficacy among patients with the same diagnosis by employing a program of research to: 1) identify behavioral and neural mechanisms underlying core processes contributing to within-disorder heterogeneity, and 2) target those mechanisms by manipulating neural circuit functioning using pharmacotherapy and neuromodulation approaches such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).

The PNC lab is located across two affiliated institutes - the Nathan Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI) in Rockland County, New York, which is a research facility run by the New York State Department of Mental Health (OMH), and the New York University Grossman School of Medicine in midtown Manhattan. Our studies recruit research participants at both location. If you live in New York City, you can participate through NYU. If you live in the boroughs surrounding New York City (for example, Bergen, Rockland, Orange, and Westchester Counties), you can participate through NKI. For participants living in NYC, we can frequently assist with transportation to NKI for study procedures such as MRI scans.
